Run the Pilgrims’ Path to the Medival Heart – 18 km / 11 miles
Experience one of the most historic routes in the Faroe Islands on this guided trail run from Tórshavn to the medieval village of Kirkjubøur. Running along the ancient pilgrims’ path, you enjoy panoramic views across fjords, islands and the surrounding mountains.
We begin in Tórshavn and follow quiet roads toward the edge of the city before joining the traditional village path that once connected the capital with the bishop’s seat in Kirkjubøur.
The route climbs gently to a grassy ridge about 260 meters above sea level, offering wide views across Tórshavn and the surrounding islands. From here we continue along the historic trail across open landscapes toward Kirkjubøur.
As we approach the village, the path winds through peaceful farmland and past traditional turf-roofed houses.
In Kirkjubøur we take time to explore the impressive ruins of Magnus Cathedral, Saint Olav’s Church and the historic farmhouse Kirkjubøargarður — one of the oldest continuously inhabited wooden houses in the world.
After the visit, you can choose how to return to Tórshavn — either enjoy the run back along the same scenic route or take the local bus back to the capital.
