You can turn up on the day you want to rent the bike. You don’t need to make a booking.

You must obtain a permit from the local farmer before you can cycle off-road. The best way to preserve and respect nature and the farmer is to cycle off-road with a local guide who knows the area. Then you get a suitable and unique challenge.
RENT A BIKE offers private guided off-road tours all year round.
Nature is the basis for well-being, health and business in the Faroe Islands and must be respected.

You can have a private tour planned according to your desire and level. You can go on a 2, 3, 4, 7 hours tour or 9 hours tour. The tour includes bike, helmets, special pedals, water, lunch (tours 4+ hours), and local guide.

Bike helmets can be rented for 50 DKK per bike. We recommend using bicycle helmets.

The bikes comes with regular pedals. You can rent pedals for road bike (SPD-SL) and pedals for MTB pedals (SPD) for 100 DKK per bike.

A bicycle lock is included in the price.

There is a spare bicycle tube and a reparation kits in a small saddle bag, so you can switch tube if there is a puncture.

If you feel bad on the trip and need medical help you must dial 112. If you feel bad on the trip and want to be transported to your place of residence you can call rentabike.fo +298 270600 and get instructions about public transport, taxi or be picked up by rentabike.fo, at you own expense.

If you don’t use the bike for all days and returns the bike, you will not get the money back. rentabike.fo recommends that you have a travel insurance.

You can pick up the bike in the shop, Sverrisgøta 20 in Tórshavn.
If you want to have the bike at another place fx. the Airport, you can book it on the website. If you want to have the bike at place that is not listed on the website, please book by email rentabike@rentabike.fo.

The blue e-bikes can go up to 120 km on one charge (Felt).
The Gravel e-bikes can go up to 80 km on one charge. (Centurion).
When renting an e-bike for multiplies days you will get a charger with you, for charging the e-bike at the place you are staying or visiting. We recommend you to charge the battery after every ride, that way your electric bike is always ready for your next outing. Switch off the battery before charging. It takes between 2 and 4 hours to charge a battery from completely empty to completely full.

We recommend you to inform you about the weather conditions before starting you trip.

Summers is cool with an average temperature of 13°C, and winters is mild, with an average temperature of 3°C. We recommend that you put on 3 layers of clothing, where the outer layer is wind and waterproof. The weather can often change within a day. Therefore, it is good to have several layers on.
If you do not have the necessary clothes, quality clothes from Endura can be bought in our store in Torshavn.

The large buses have the place to transport 1-2 bikes. The small buses must be notified of the bike the day before the trip starts, call +298 343030.
Passengers taking the bus to the island of Sandoy, can enter the bus at the tunnel start, Gomlurætt, and on the way back at the opposite tunnel start, Inni í Dal. You need to call the bus on tel. +298 770000, +298 225900 or +298 293083.

You can bike through the 19 tunnels and 2 undersea tunnels on the Faroe Islands. It is not allowed to bike through the new Eysturoyartunnil and Sandoyar tunnel. Most of the 19 tunnels are “low-cost” tunnels (similar to Norway and Island).
You should always wear a helmet, have good lights, blinking lights and a reflective vest on while biking through a tunnel. You can bring your own lights and put them on, as an extra light, when cycling trough tunnels. There is no tunnel fee for the bicycle.

Some tunnels are 2 lanes, others are 1 lanes.

Please notice that “Kollfjarðartunnelin” is heavily trafficked. The tunnels on Borðoy are narrow, dark and trafficked. The tunnels on the islands Kunoy and Kalsoy are narrow, dark and low trafficked.

You can bike on the old roads and avoided going through these tunnels: “Kollafjarðartunnilin”, “Leynatunnilin”, “Norðskálatunnilin”,”Leirvíkstunnilin”, “Sumbiartunnilin” and “Dalstunnilin”.

TRIP SUGGESTIONS

The island Sandoy has beautiful little villages, peaceful lakes and is a low traffic island. There is a undersea tunnel to Sandoy. It si not alowed to bike trought theis undersea tunnel.

Cycle from Tórshavn 15 km to Gomlurætt. There you take the bus to Sandoy fx. at 9:30 to Sandoy. Then you can continue 9 km to Skálavík and stop at the charming café Mølin by the harbor. In the next village Húsavík you can see Viking settlement or you can bike further to the epic village of Dalur. While waiting for the bus back in Skopun, you can visit one of the largest mailboxes in the world. Take the bus back from Sandur fx. at 17:50.

Or you can book bike transport at rentabike@rentbike.fo and have the bikes delivered on the island of Sandoy. The cost is 460 DKK per bike per way, when you have two bikes or more, there is an discount of 25% off total.

Cycle from Tórshavn to the small farmer village Norðadalur and back to Tórshavn. Stop at the mountain pass, Norðadalsskarð, 225m above sea level. The view is spectacular to the one family settlement island Koltur. You will get great pictures by the cairn.
About 27 km. 684 meter height difference. Max increase 18,6%.
Suitable for E-Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes.

Cycle for Tórshavn to Sornfelli, where there is a former military radar station 725 m above sea level, and a meteorological station. Cycle back to Tórshavn.
About 37 km. 1.450 meter height difference. Max increase 15,1%.
Suitable for E-Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes.

Bike form Tórshavn toward Klaksvík, trough Kollafjørð, Hósvík, Áir, Hvalvík, cross the bridge and bike trough the tunnel towards Skálafjørð. Turn left to Gøtu and trough the tunnel to Leirvík. Cycle trough the subsea tunnel to Klasvík.
About 141 km. 1.788 meter height difference. Max increase 12%.
You might stay one nigh in Klaksvík. rentabike.fo offers baggage transport to Klaksvík.

Cycle from Tórshavn to historical Kirkjubø. See the only Cathedral and the oldest Church on Faroe Island, and the oldest habitat wood house in Europe. On your way back bike through the village Velbastaður.
About 30 km. 657 meter height difference. Max increase 6,9%.

Cycle from Tórshavn through the village Kallafjørð, Hósvík, Áir to Hvalvík. Turne left to Saksun. Saksun is a wonderfully remote hillside village and is one of the most worthwhile destinations in the country. Cycle back to Tórshavn.
You can take the old road between Tórshavn and Kollafjørð “Oyggjavegur” to avoid the Kollafjørður tunnel.
About 98 km. 502 meter height difference. Max increase 6,3%.
Suitable for E-Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes. Bring along a charger for the E-Bike.

Cycle form Tórshavn through Kollafjørð, Hósvík, Áir, Hvalvík to the small village Tjørnuvík. Tjørnuvík is surrounded by high mountains. The village is beautifully situated at the bottom of a bay overlooking to majistic sea-stacks “Risin” and “Kellingin” (the giant and the witch). Cycle back to Tórshavn.
You can take the old road between Tórshavn and Kollafjørð “Oyggjavegur” to avoid the Kollafjørður tunnel.
About 105 km. 1.186 meter height difference. Max increase 9,1%.

Cycle form Tórshavn to Vestmanna and back to Tórshavn.
You can take the old road between Tórshavn and Kollafjørð “Oyggjavegur” to avoid the Kollafjørður tunnel.

Cycle form Tórshavn through Kollafjørð, Hósvík, Áir, Hvalvík, við Streymin. After crossing the bridge turn left towards Eiði to Gjógv. Between Eiði and Gjógv you will pass the highest mountain on the Faroe Island “Slættaratindur”. In Gjógv you can stroll around in the village and walk out to the end of the gorge. One your way back you can cycle through the village Funningur and back to Tórshavn. You can take the old road between Tórshavn and Kollafjørð “Oyggjavegur” to avoid the Kollafjørður tunnel.
About 116 km. 5.300 meter height difference. Max increase 18,3%.
You might stay one night in Gjógv ex. at the Guesthouse Gjógv or Airbnb. Baggage transport to Gjógv is available. Suitable for E-Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes. Bring along a charger for the E-Bike.

It is a very good idea to go cycling on Suðuroy. Bring your bike with you on the ferry Smyril to Suðuroy fx Mondays, Wendsdays and Thursdagys at 8:45.
Suðuroy is a most picturesque island that has much to offer the visitor. From historic Sandvík in the north to the beautiful, natural scenery of Sumba on the south. The two largest towns, Tvøroyri and Vágur, are situated on beautiful fjords surrounded by mountains. All of the island’s towns and villages are linked by a network of modern roads, which offers easy access to a variety of fascinating landscapes. We recement you to visit “Vitin” in the village Akraberg, Brúgvin across Rituskor, Ásmundarstakkur, Vágseiði or take a walk to the vally Hvannhagi. Take the ferry back the same day fx. 18:45 (Monday and Wednesday) and 17:30 (Thursday) or stay for a day or more.

Take the ferry from the ferry port in the city Klaksvík to the village Syðradalur, at the island Kalsoy. RENT A BIKE can drop of your bike at the Ferry port. Bike transport can be booked with the bikes or by email.
Bring your bikes to the ferry and cycle ashore and start explore the island. The island has 4 tunnels, and prepare your self for an extraordinary experience cycling through them. Make sure that you got good lights on the bike and even better, bring a good pan lamp for the ride. Where a reflective vest as well. The tunnels are different, one of them is dark and you do not see the light at the end of the tunnel, before you are halfway trough. so stay calm and do the clime in the dark, and you will soon see light at the end of the tunnel.
There are several interesting ting to see at Kalsoy. F.ex. The Seal Women in Mikladalur and Agent 007’s gravestone near Trøllanes, Back in Klaksvík, RENT A BIKE can pick up your bike at the Ferry port.
