Hike the Clifftop on Sandoy (Gleðin) – 4 km / 2,5 miles – Fridays
Discover the dramatic sea cliffs of Sandoy on this guided hike to the summit of Gleðin. Enjoy sweeping coastal views, seabird colonies and unique Faroese landscapes after a memorable drive through the Sandoy subsea tunnel.
We begin by driving through the Sandoy subsea tunnel beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Inside the tunnel, artwork by Faroese artist Edward Fuglø and music by Sunleif Rasmussen create a unique cultural experience.
Arriving in the village of Skopun, we start our guided hike toward the coastal cliffs. Seabirds nest along the steep rock faces, and your guide helps spot fulmars, guillemots and other cliff birds.
The trail then climbs gently toward the grassy summit of Gleðin (271 m). From the top we enjoy wide views across Sandoy, the sea stacks near Sandvík and the famous rock formation Trøllkonufingur.
After time to enjoy the views, we return to Skopun and drive back to Tórshavn.
